A structural inspection is often only undertaken when a structural defect or problem is discovered or suspected. Typically as part of the procedure of a Home Buyer’s Survey if any structural problems are suspected they’ll be noted for further investigation by a professional structural engineer, who’ll be able to identify the specific problem and suggest the possible solutions to fix. Where there is a larger suspected problem or the building’s history is especially poor, a general structural inspection may be carried out which will require an evaluation of the whole structure and all load-bearing facets of the building, along with inspections of the surrounding site and any potential influences it might have, such as drainage issues or any trees close to the foundations of the building.
Any structural inspection will advise on the probable scope of any repair work that is required to fix the issue. When looking for a structural engineer, look for Chartered Surveyors who’ll be members of either the Institution of Structural Engineers or the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Aberfoyle is a community in Stirling, Scotland. It is around 27 miles from Glasgow. It sits along the River Forth at the base of Craigmore which is 420 metres high. In 2010, it was estimated that the population was 800.
During the 1820s to the 1950s, the slate quarries on Craigmore were a major industry for Aberfoyle. Other trades, established in the 1720s, included wool spinning and a lint mill.
From 1882, Aberfoyle had its own railway station, but this closed to passengers in 1951 and to commercial traffic in 1959. Nowadays the community is supported by the forestry industry and tourism.
Aberfoyle calls itself ‘The Gateway to the Trossachs’. Its positioning attracts visitors as they can go to see Loch Lomond and the Lake of Menteith, Scotland’s only lake. The closeby Queen Elizabeth Forest Park organises walks round the local lochs. Aberfoyle also has the biggest Go Ape adventure course in the UK, featuring the longest zipline in the country. Tourists can also see the ‘Quack Commandoes’, where a sheepdog herds Indian Runner ducks!
