A structural inspection is often only undertaken when a structural defect or issue is identified or suspected. Often during the process of a Home Buyer’s Survey if any structural problems are suspected they’ll be documented for additional investigation by an expert structural engineer, who will be able to recognise the precise problem and suggest the likely options to rectify. Where there is a more substantial suspected issue or the building’s background is particularly poor, a general structural inspection may be completed which will consist of an assessment of the whole structure and all load-bearing components of the building, together with inspections of the surrounding site and any possible influences it could have, such as drainage issues or any trees near the foundations of the house.
Any structural inspection will suggest the probable extent of any repair work that is required to correct the problem. When looking for a structural engineer, look for Chartered Surveyors who will be members of either the Institution of Structural Engineers or the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Belvedere is a town in south east London, England inside the London Borough of Bexley. It is positioned south east of Thamesmead and is located roughly 12 miles (19 km) southeast of Charing Cross. Belvedere was in Kent, and postally remains so. It was a part of the Municipal Borough of Erith prior to 1965 and improvement work occurred prior to the Second World War, with considerable reconstruction work after the Blitz. Despite this, Upper Belvedere as well as the Village still contains a significant amount of its Victorian and Edwardian appeal and character. Upper Belvedere is the location of a church and many Victorian and Edwardian brick villas. It boasts numerous standard pubs, restaurants and retail outlets. These include The Eardley Arms on Woolwich Road, The Vic on Victoria Street, The Royal Standard in the heart of the village plus the Fox in Belvedere village. Upper Belvedere also boasts a sizeable park and a library which was under threat of being closed down as a result of the government’s cuts. Fortunately closure threats have been stopped as a result with the efforts of the local neighbourhood. A brand new ‘Splash Park’, which opened its doors in 2005, was a popular addition for the village, having been developed on the location of the old Victorian paddling pool. The splash park preserves parts of the historically significant paddling pool architecture. Between 1898 and 1961, Callender’s Cable Works, at the Erith Works, was patron to Callender’s Cableworks Band, an amateur brass band formed of staff of the business. The band was a successful broadcaster on BBC Radio in the 1920s and 1930s.
