A structural inspection is typically only completed when a structural defect or problem is identified or suspected. Typically as part of the process of a Home Buyer’s Survey if any structural problems are suspected they will be noted for further investigation by an expert structural engineer, who will be able to identify the precise problem and advise on the likely methods to correct. Where there is a larger suspected issue or the building’s history is especially poor, a general structural inspection may be carried out which will consist of an assessment of the whole structure and all load-bearing aspects of the building, along with inspections of the surrounding site and any potential effects it could have, such as drainage issues or any trees near the foundations of the building.
Structural surveys may also be undertaken on an ad hoc basis on existing houses if you suspect any sort of structural defect, such as cracking in walls, sagging of ceilings or roofs, or subsistence around the foundations of the building. When searching for a structural engineer, look for Chartered Surveyors who’ll be members of either the Institution of Structural Engineers or the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Berwick-upon-Tweed is a town inside the county of Northumberland. It’s the northernmost town in England. It’s situated 2.5 miles (4 km) south of the Scottish border, at the mouth of the River Tweed, on the east coast of the United Kingdom. It’s about 56 miles (90 km) south east of Edinburgh, 65 miles (105 km) north of Newcastle upon Tyne and 345 miles (555 km) north of London. The 2011 UK Census recorded Berwick’s population as 12,043. A civil parish and town council were established in 2008. Berwick was established as an Anglo-Saxon settlement during the period of the Kingdom of Northumbria, which was annexed by England during the tenth century. The area was, for over 400 years, central to historic border wars among the Kingdoms of England and Scotland, and many times possession of Berwick changed hands between the two kingdoms. The final time it changed hands was when England retook it in 1482. Berwick remains a historic market town and also has some notable architectural features, for instance its medieval town walls, Elizabethan ramparts and Britain’s oldest barracks buildings. Slightly more than 60 per cent of the population works in the service sector, including shops, hotels and catering, financial services and most government activity, such as health care. About 13 per cent is in manufacturing, 10% in agriculture, and 8% in construction. Some current and recent Berwick economic activities include salmon fishing, shipbuilding, engineering, sawmilling, fertilizer production, malting and the production of tweed and hosiery.
