Technical drawings are created for numerous different products, and you could come across technical drawings at a variety of stages throughout any building work you carry out. Often, technical drawings are produced by an architect or structural engineer when planning a conversion or extension. These technical drawings are usually produced for the building contractor, and will provide specifications for the types of materials used for specific components of the build as well as the techniques of construction to be performed. Technical drawings also feature measurements for a variety of aspects of the building, like roof heights and floor plans.

Technical drawings can be either 2D or 3D depending on the information that needs to be conveyed in the plans. They can be produced either by hand or by using computer aided design, although the majority of technical drawings are generated and delivered digitally as the computer aided design software offers precision measurements.

Chepstow is a town in Monmouthshire, Wales. It adjoins the border with Gloucestershire in England. It is positioned on the River Wye, about 2 miles (3.2 km) above its confluence with the River Severn, and adjoining the western end of the Severn Bridge. It’s 16 miles (26 km) east of Newport, 18 miles (29 km) north-west of Bristol and 110 miles (180 km) west of London. In line with the 2001 Census, the town has a permanent population of around 10821. Its accessibility to the cities of Bristol, Newport and Cardiff means it features a large quantity of commuters. Chepstow Castle, situated on a clifftop above the Wye and its bridge, is often cited as the oldest surviving stone castle in Britain. The castle was established by William Fitzosbern immediately after the Norman conquest, and was extended in later centuries prior to becoming ruined after the Civil War. A Benedictine priory was also established inside the walled town, which was the centre of the Marcher Lordship of Striguil. The port of Chepstow became noted during the Middle Ages for its imports of wine, and also became a major centre for the export of timber and bark, from nearby woodland in the Wye valley and Forest of Dean. During the late eighteenth century the town was a focus of early tourism as a part of the “Wye Tour”, and the tourist business remains important. Other significant industries included shipbuilding – among the very first World War National Shipyards was established in the town – and heavy engineering, including the prefabrication of bridges and, now, wind turbine towers. Chepstow is also well-known for its racecourse, which has hosted the Welsh National every single year since 1949.
