Planning permission is an essential requirement of any alterations to your house. You can engage the services of an architect or architectural services company to direct you through the procedure of acquiring planning permission for your home extension. Architects are experienced with submitting planning applications, and will have a good understanding of the requirements and limits both country wide and in your local area. The majority of planning permission applications are granted, particularly if you can establish that your building work is sympathetic to the conditions outlined by local authority policy.
Architects can help with every aspect of your planning application, from generating technical and architectural drawings to filing paperwork with the local authority. They can also make sure that your proposed work is designed to a high standard, creating practical and aesthetically pleasing spaces that will suit your current property. Although some alterations to your home are allowed by permitted development rights and as a consequence won’t need planning permission, you’ll still need to conform to building regulations. Hiring an architect to draw up the plans for your extension will guarantee that any work you carry out will adhere to these regulations and be of a high standard.

Brierley Hill is a compact town and electoral ward of the Dudley Metropolitan Borough within the West Midlands of England. It’s located about 2.5 miles to the south of central Dudley and 2 miles north of Stourbridge. Brierley Hill was initially in Staffordshire, but is now part of the West Midlands metropolitan county ever since its creation in 1974. A part of the Black Country, and within a heavily industrialised area of the Dudley Borough, it features a permanent population of about 13,935 residents, as per the 2011 census. Mostly established by the Industrial Revolution, Brierley Hill boasts a fairly modern history, with the first written records of the town going back to the 17th century. Originally established as a settlement in the woodland of Pensnett Chase, it started to expand quickly following the chase’s enclosure in 1748, and was first displayed on a map in 1785 after the mapping of the Stourbridge Canal. The town is primarily identified for glass and steel manufacturing, although the business has declined considerably since the 1970s. On the list of the biggest factories within the area was the Round Oak Steelworks, which was shut and redeveloped during the 1980s to be transformed into the Merry Hill Shopping Centre. The Merry Hill Shopping Centre is situated immediately to the east of Brierley Hill. One of the biggest shopping centres in the United Kingdom, it was built between 1985 and 1989 on the grounds of Merry Hill Farm, the last working urban farm inside the West Midlands. Since 2008, Brierley Hill, including the close by Waterfront Business Park and Merry Hill Shopping Centre, has been officially named as the Strategic Town Centre of the Dudley Borough, with the aim to create a new town centre for the borough.
