A structural inspection is typically only completed when a structural defect or problem is discovered or suspected. Usually as part of the process of a Home Buyer’s Survey if any structural problems are suspected they’ll be documented for additional investigation by a professional structural engineer, who will be able to identify the specific problem and recommend the possible methods to fix. Where there is a more substantial suspected issue or the building’s background is especially poor, a general structural inspection may be undertaken which will involve an inspection of the complete structure and all load-bearing facets of the building, together with inspections of the surrounding site and any potential effects it could have, such as drainage issues or any trees near to the foundations of the building.
Any structural inspection will recommend the probable range of any repair work that is required to put right the issue. When searching for a structural engineer, look for Chartered Surveyors who will be members of either the Institution of Structural Engineers or the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Brierley Hill is a little town and electoral ward of the Dudley Metropolitan Borough within the West Midlands of England. It’s around 2.5 miles to the south of central Dudley and 2 miles north of Stourbridge. Brierley Hill was originally in Staffordshire, but is now a part of the West Midlands metropolitan county since its establishment in 1974. Part of the Black Country, and inside a heavily industrialised area of the Dudley Borough, it boasts a permanent population of roughly 13,935 residents, as per the 2011 census. Mostly a product of the Industrial Revolution, Brierley Hill features a comparatively current history, with the very first written records of the town dating back to the seventeenth century. First established as a settlement in the woodland of Pensnett Chase, it began expanding rapidly after the chase’s enclosure in 1748, and was first shown on a map in 1785 following the mapping of the Stourbridge Canal. The town is mostly identified for glass and steel manufacturing, though the industry has declined considerably since the 1970s. On the list of the biggest factories within the area was the Round Oak Steelworks, which was shut and renovated during the 1980s to become the Merry Hill Shopping Centre. The Merry Hill Shopping Centre is immediately east of Brierley Hill. One of the biggest shopping centres in the United Kingdom, it was built between 1985 and 1989 on the site of Merry Hill Farm, the last operating urban farm in the West Midlands. Since 2008, Brierley Hill, including the neighbouring Waterfront Business Park and Merry Hill Shopping Centre, has been officially named as the Strategic Town Centre of the Dudley Borough, with the aim to create a brand new town centre for the borough.
