Surveying can come in numerous forms. Many homeowners will come across a Home Buyer’s Survey as part of the procedure of buying or selling a house. The Home Buyer’s Survey is completed to ensure the home buyer is fully informed of the condition of the home they are buying, alongside any possible problems around insulation, damp proofing or drainage. For older buildings or for properties where the buyer is less certain of its condition, a full building survey can be executed, which goes into more detail when compared to a Home Buyer’s Survey, and will point out any further problems with the property as well as including an assessment of the land surrounding the building.
Other types of survey include a land survey, which will involve an inspection of the condition of the land. Surveyors can also undertake snagging reports, which are completed after a new build is finalised to point out any issues or defects with the quality of the property which may then be rectified.
When searching for a company to undertake surveying work, ensure you choose a chartered surveyor qualified by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.

The village is known as the site of the Abbots Ripton railway disaster in 1876, where a Flying Scotsman train collided with a coal train during a blizzard.
Abbots Ripton has a long history. The Domesday book records it as Riptone, and in the 11th century it was called Riptune. Moat Farm has trees dating back to Shakespeare’s era, and St. Andrew’s church tower is about 400 years old. It holds a bell manufactured in 1400 and another from 1671. The nave, aisle and porch of the church are even older, dating back to the 13th century.
The village has a 17th-century pub, the Three Horseshoes, which was seriously damaged by a fire in 2010 due to embers in the chimney.
