Technical drawings are created for a number of different products, and you might encounter technical drawings at a range of stages through any building work you carry out. Ordinarily, technical drawings are generated by an architect or structural engineer when planning a conversion or extension. These technical drawings are usually produced for the building contractor, and will include specifications for the types of material utilised for specific components of the build as well as the techniques of construction to be carried out. Technical drawings also include proportions for various elements of the building, including ceiling heights and floor plans.

Technical drawings can be either 2D or 3D depending on the information that is required to be conveyed in the plans. They can be generated either by hand or by using computer aided design, although the majority of technical drawings are generated and delivered digitally as the computer aided design software offers precision measurements.
