Planning permission is an essential factor of any extensions to your property. You can engage the services of an architect or architectural services company to direct you through the procedure of obtaining planning permission for your home alteration. Architects are familiar with submitting planning applications, and will have a good understanding of the requirements and limitations both nationally and in your local area. The majority of planning permission applications are granted, especially if you can demonstrate that your building work is sympathetic to the conditions outlined by local authority policy.

Architects can help with every aspect of your planning application, from generating technical and architectural drawings to filing paperwork with your local authority. They can also make sure that your planned work is designed to a high standard, creating practical and beautiful spaces that will suit your current property. While some alterations to your home are covered by permitted development rights and as a consequence won’t require planning permission, you’ll still need to abide by building regulations. Hiring an architect to draft the plans for your extension will make sure that any work you carry out will comply with these regulations and be of a high standard.

Buxton is a spa town in Derbyshire. It is on the edge of the county boundary, with Cheshire to the west and Staffordshire to the south, Buxton is generally described as ‘The Gateway to the Peak District National Park’. Originally a municipal borough, Buxton joined with other locations in 1974 to establish the local government district and borough of High Peak within the county of Derbyshire. At 300 metres above sea level, Buxton is often referred to as England’s highest market town. This height means that the town is typically cooler than nearby places, with the daytime temperature being around 2 degrees C lower than the temperature in Manchester. Situated on the River Wye and overlooked by Axe Edge Moor, Buxton is traditionally a spa town because of the geothermal spring that rises at a constant temperature of 28 degrees C. The water from the spring flows to St. Ann’s Well by way of a pipe system which is located opposite the Crescent close to the town centre. Buxton gained significant recognition after the spa was recommended by Erasmus Darwin to Josiah Wedgwood in the latter half of the 19th century. The water from the geothermal spring is also bottled and sold internationally by Buxton Mineral Water Company. As recorded in the 2011 Census, the resident population of the town is approximately 22,000. The town has seen continuous growth since the coming of the railway in 1863. There is also a relatively significant student population, with the Devonshire Campus of the University of Derby being in one of Buxton’s historic buildings.
