Technical drawings are created for a wide variety of different products, and you may come across technical drawings at a range of stages through any building work you carry out. Usually, technical drawings are generated by an architect or structural engineer when planning a conversion or extension. These technical drawings are generally produced for the building contractor, and will include specifications for the types of material used for specific components of the build as well as the techniques of construction to be carried out. Technical drawings also feature proportions for numerous aspects of the building, like ceiling heights and floor plans.
Technical drawings may also be created for many of the discrete elements which may be bought as part of the project, for example windows and doors. Manufacturers will produce technical drawings for their products to guarantee they can be integrated as easily as possible into building designs. Technical drawings will also commonly have to be submitted to local authorities to receive approval that the proposed work conforms to building regulations.

Catterick Garrison is a significant garrison and town positioned 3 miles south of Richmond in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire, England. The town lies within the Central Richmondshire electoral division of North Yorkshire County Council and divided among the Hipswell and Scotton wards of Richmondshire District Council. The town is divided among two civil parishes. The southern part of the town, south of a small stream called Leadmill Gill, is in the civil parish of Scotton. The northern part forms the greater part of the civil parish of Hipswell. Each parish has its own parish council. It is the biggest British Army garrison in the world, having a population of about 13000 and measuring over 2400 acres. The original intention for Catterick was to be a temporary camp to accommodate two complete divisions with about 40000 men in 2000 huts. However, under plans announced by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in November 2005, the population of Catterick Garrison is expected to grow to more than 25000 by 2020, making it the largest population centre in the local area. Lacking a real town centre, the Garrison gained its initial big supermarket in 2000, together with a retail park generally known as ‘Richmondshire Walk’, which also includes a McDonalds, a Poundstretcher and also a Peacocks, amongst others. ‘Catterick Leisure Centre’ is a purpose built centre opposite the retail park, opened in July 2009, and it delivers a broad spectrum of leisure and fitness facilities like a swimming pool, and a gym, as well as an adjoining public library.
