The procedure for dealing with party walls in terms of building and construction works, particularly any conversions or extensions to your house, can be intricate. However, if party wall notices are planned for from the beginning of a project, and you are sure to appoint surveyors to undertake the required surveys as early as possible then it can be much easier to get a Party Wall Agreement.
After a Party Wall Notice is served, the neighbour has 14 days to assent to the works, in which case they can proceed under a Party Wall Agreement. If the neighbour dissents to the notice, a surveyor must be selected who will reach an Agreement between the two parties, setting out the scope of the work as well as any procedures that either party could use to recoup any damages they might have incurred because of the works.
