Planning permission is an essential factor of any changes to your property. You can engage the services of an architect or architectural services business to direct you through the process of acquiring planning permission for your home alteration. Architects are familiar with submitting planning applications, and will have a good understanding of the requirements and limitations both nationally and in your local area. The majority of planning permission applications are granted, especially if you can establish that your building work is sympathetic to the conditions outlined by local authority policy.

Architects can help with every part of your planning application, from generating technical and architectural drawings to filing paperwork with your local authority. They are able to also ensure that your planned work is designed to a high standard, creating practical and aesthetically pleasing spaces that will complement your current property. While some alterations to your house are covered by permitted development rights and as a consequence won’t need planning permission, you’ll still need to conform to building regulations. Hiring an architect to draw up the plans for your alteration will ensure that any work you undertake will comply with these regulations and be of a high standard.

The Royal Borough of Greenwich is a London borough in south-east London, England. Taking its name from the historic town of Greenwich, the London Borough of Greenwich was formed in 1965 by the amalgamation of the former area of the Metropolitan Borough of Greenwich with a part of the Metropolitan Borough of Woolwich towards the east. The local council is Greenwich London Borough Council which meets in Woolwich Town Hall. The council’s offices are also primarily based in Woolwich, the primary urban centre in the borough. It covers an overall area of 18.28 square miles.

In accordance with population estimates during 2014, the borough has a permanent population of around 268678 inhabiants. Greenwich is most famously referred to as the traditional location of the Prime Meridian, on which all Coordinated Universal Time is based.

Greenwich was among six host boroughs for the 2012 London Olympics and events were held at the Royal Artillery Barracks for shooting, Greenwich Park for equestrianism, as well as the O2, the former Millennium Dome, for gymnastics and basketball. It is also the home borough of professional football club Charlton Athletic. To mark the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II, Greenwich became a Royal Borough on 3rd February 2012. This is partly a result of its historic links with the Royal Family, and to its UNESCO World Heritage Site status as residence of the Prime Meridian.
