Technical drawings are created for a range of different products, and you may encounter technical drawings at various stages through any building work you perform. Usually, technical drawings are generated by an architect or structural engineer when planning a conversion or extension. These technical drawings are usually produced for the construction contractor, and will include things like specifications for the types of materials utilised for specific components of the build as well as the methods of construction to be undertaken. Technical drawings also include proportions for numerous aspects of the building, like roof heights and floor plans.
Technical drawings may also be produced for many of the discrete elements which may be bought as part of the project, for example doors and windows. Manufacturers will produce technical drawings for their products to ensure that they can be incorporated as easily as possible into building designs. Technical drawings will also generally have to be submitted to local authorities to receive approval that the proposed work conforms to building regulations.
